Surrounded by panoramic hilltop views, mature trees, open pastures, and iconic Western charm, this historic ranch is ideal for couples seeking an elevated yet relaxed celebration rooted in the beauty of California’s countryside.

With on-site lodging, in-house food and beverage, and multiple outdoor ceremony and reception locations, Alisal Ranch is designed for immersive wedding weekends. Whether your guests are enjoying horseback riding, golfing, wine tasting nearby, or simply soaking in the scenery, a wedding at Alisal Ranch feels like a true retreat rather than a single-day event.

Venue Spaces at Alisal Ranch

Grove of Sycamores

The Grove of Sycamores is a breathtaking outdoor space framed by towering trees and natural surroundings, accommodating up to 300 guests. With a noise curfew of 11 p.m., this space is well suited for large or intimate ceremonies and receptions that feel grounded in nature while still allowing for an elevated celebration. The pathway to the space is flat but consists of natural terrain, which should be considered for accessibility planning. In the event of weather concerns, couples may bring in a tent or utilize the Sycamore Room as an indoor backup option.

Lake Lawn + Deck

The Lake Lawn and Deck offer a picturesque lakeside setting with expansive views and a relaxed, destination-style feel. While the space can accommodate up to 220 guests, 160 is considered ideal for comfort and flow. This area features a dock on the lake, a deck and lawn overlooking the water, and even an axe-throwing area, creating a unique and interactive guest experience. Accessibility should be carefully planned, as the terrain includes uneven ground and stairs leading to the deck and lawn. Weather backup options include bringing in a tent or transitioning to the Sycamore Room indoors. The noise curfew for this space is 11 p.m.

Alisal River Terrace

The Alisal River Terrace is a picturesque outdoor space set alongside the river, offering sweeping views of the Santa Ynez Valley and surrounding hills. This location is ideal for couples who want a ceremony or reception that feels immersed in nature and showcases the ranch’s expansive landscape. The space can accommodate up to 250 guests and follows the venue’s 11 p.m. noise curfew. Accessibility should be thoughtfully considered, as the natural terrain may include uneven ground typical of a ranch setting. In the event of inclement weather, couples may bring in a tent or transition to an indoor backup option such as the Sycamore Room.

Cottonwood Room
The Cottonwood Room is an intimate indoor venue well suited for smaller wedding weekend events such as rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, or indoor receptions. With a capacity of approximately 120 guests, this space features classic ranch-style design, hardwood floors, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Events in the Cottonwood Room typically follow the ranch’s 11 p.m. noise curfew. As an indoor space, it offers easier accessibility for guests and vendors and serves as a reliable weather-safe option when outdoor plans need to shift.

Sycamore Room

The Sycamore Room is one of Alisal Ranch’s primary indoor event spaces and is frequently used for receptions or as a weather backup for outdoor celebrations. The room can accommodate up to 200 guests and features high ceilings, rustic architectural details, and ample space for dinner and dancing. Events in the Sycamore Room adhere to the venue’s 11 p.m. noise curfew. As a fully indoor space, it provides strong accessibility and is commonly used as the primary weather backup for outdoor venues throughout the property.

Everything You Need to Know About Alisal Ranch

Venue Inclusions

Alisal Ranch provides standard event rentals, on-site lodging, and full in-house food and beverage services. Having these core elements handled by the venue makes planning more streamlined, especially for multi-day wedding weekends.

Parking & Transportation
Guests are required to be transported via shuttle. All guests and vendors must be escorted from the front office to the outdoor event spaces by venue personnel, which is approximately a 15-minute drive each way. Transportation logistics are a key consideration when planning your timeline. The indoor event spaces are closer to the front office, which allow for easier transportation.

Noise Curfew
Outdoor event spaces follow an 11 p.m. noise curfew.

Rain Plan
Both outdoor event spaces allow couples to bring in a tent if needed. The Sycamore Room serves as an indoor backup option for weather-related changes.

Vendor Access & Logistics
All guests and vendors must be transported and escorted by venue staff from the front office to the outdoor event locations. Because of the distance and controlled access, having an experienced wedding planner is essential to ensure smooth transitions, accurate timing, and stress-free coordination throughout the day.

Catering
Food and beverage services are provided in-house, allowing for a cohesive culinary experience that aligns seamlessly with the overall wedding weekend.

Bartending
Bartending services are provided by the venue as part of their in-house food and beverage program.

Getting Ready Area
Couples may get ready in the Library or in private guest rooms, depending on availability and the structure of the wedding weekend.

Accessibility
Accessibility varies by space. The Grove of Sycamores offers flat pathways with dirt terrain, while the Lake Lawn and Deck include uneven ground and stairs. These factors should be discussed early in the planning process to ensure guest comfort.

Photo Opportunities Around the Property
Alisal Ranch offers an abundance of stunning photo locations throughout the property. Favorite spots include Proposal Point, the Front Lane, the horse pastures, and countless scenic backdrops featuring expansive hilltop views, draping tree canopies, and open valley landscapes. The ranch setting provides endless opportunities for romantic, editorial-style portraits at every turn.

Pricing Overview
We recommend for couples to allocate at least $700 per guest for their overall wedding budget. Investment typically leans higher when bringing in specialty rentals, higher end vendors and installations. This reflects the venue experience, in-house services, lodging, and the scale of planning involved for a full, elevated ranch wedding weekend.

Best Time of Year to Host a Wedding
Alisal Ranch is best suited for times of year when the Santa Ynez Valley’s natural beauty is on full display. Seasonal conditions, temperature, and guest comfort should be considered when selecting your date, especially for outdoor events. April-June are wonderful for blooming wildflowers and mild temperatures. September and October are ideal for warm, dry weather, clear skies and low humidity.

Why You Should Hire a Wedding Planner Before Booking Your Venue

Hiring a wedding planner before booking your venue is one of the smartest decisions you can make. A seasoned planner doesn’t just help with logistics, they act as your advocate from day one. They’ll negotiate with the venue, ensuring you don’t sign a contract that’s missing key details, includes hidden fees, or locks you into a space that won’t work for your vision.

An experienced planner can save you money by identifying red flags and helping you build a realistic budget before you commit to a venue, preventing costly mistakes and future headaches. Planners have insider knowledge of venue pros and cons, can help you navigate confusing fine print, and often catch red flags couples wouldn’t know to look for.

Most importantly, hiring a planner early means you’re not planning blind. You have a professional on your side to guide big decisions and eliminate stress from the start.
